John Benjamins Publishing Company is an independent, family-owned academic publisher headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Founded over 50 years ago by John and Claire Benjamins, the company is currently under the general management of their daughter Seline Benjamins.

Over the years JB has been firmly rooted in every imaginable subfield of Language and Linguistics. Further fields of focus are Cognitive Science, Psychology, (Contemporary) Philosophy, Terminology, Information Design, Literary Studies and Art History. In the past decade, JB has been building a significant list of print and electronic publications. For the fields of Pragmatics & Discourse and Translation Studies, JB has developed two major online Bibliographies: The electronic Bibliography of Pragmatics and the electronic Translation Studies Bibliography. The development of online bibliographies continues with the electronic Bibliography of Metaphor and Metonymy which became available in the spring of 2005. Other projects in online publishing are the Handbook of Pragmatics Online, the Handbook of Translation Studies and the Handbook of Terminology.

JB publications are selected under expert academic editorship and peer-reviewing by and for academic researchers and trainers, and include, in addition to works of pure research, excellent university-level course books. JB takes pride in maintaining a constant dialogue with the various academic communities to stay at the forefront of research developments and needs, and in serving as an academic exchange for scholars from every part of the world.

In 2015 JB published over 150 new book titles and 70 journals. JB has an active interest in the acquisition and launch of new projects (journals and books). All books and journals are electronically available (full-text). The backlist of books contains over 3500 available titles. Complete back-sets of journals are available as print/online AND as online-only.

JB has a worldwide network of appointed Distributors and Agents in place and has a presence at numerous international Trade Fairs and Academic Conferences.

Since 1981 JB has a North American office in Philadelphia for promotion and liaison tasks in the US, Canada and Mexico.
