Geschiedenis

Klevenberg shipping Center B.V. was established 16th January 1967 as Klevenberg Trading Co. N.V.

The new company took over the name, premises and activities of the former Klevenberg & Co., which was founded by the Norwegian Captain E.C. Klevenberg in 1898.

In the traditional way of storing ships the Captain and his Officers ordered every item from the local ship-chandler.

However, - as the communication between the shipping companies and their vessels improved, it became more and more usual for the shipping companies to establish their own purchasing departments, and the purchases were then spread to a wider range of suppliers.

Especially the ordering of spare parts for their vessels directly from the producer (factory) gradually became a common practice with most shipowning companies.

Our company realized in an early stage of this development that, instead of fighting this trend, one would have to assist the shipping companies in their efforts to store and supply their vessels as effectively as possible.

With a net of suppliers in different countries all over the world, the shipowning companies and their purchasing/technical departments soon felt the need of an efficient collection and delivery system.

In cooperation with some of our larger shipowning clients solutions were reached in respect of meeting this demand.

In the course of the gradual changing from a traditional shipchandling firm to a modern service organization our company clearly saw the necessity of splitting the activities, and thus the company was divided in four departments:
1. Trading Division
2. Shipping Service Division
3. Technical Repairs Spareparts - Sales and Service
4. Agency Clearance.

As a further consequence of this reorganization the name of the company was changed to "Klevenberg Shipping Center B.V."

The founder of the new company was Captain Oddmund Grundstad.
