The Green Village’s takes a unique position in the chain from fundamental research and development to large-scale application of innovations in society. Many innovations never leave the lab of a corporate or university and find a first application at a pilot location. There may be technological risks, the return on investment may be uncertain, concerns on safety or privacy may exist, or the application simply does not meet current regulation.

The Green Village provides an environment where universities and businesses can develop, test and demonstrate their innovations without these concerns, with close involvement of the public and government. At The Green Village products are allowed to fail, the business model does not need to be clear, visitors may feel inspired yet uncomfortable (objective safety will always be assured!) and in some cases innovations will benefit from government “switching off” some regulations.
