About Mirelle

Meet the artist Mirelle Vegers.
“I am an artist with a profound passion for horses. I have been drawing ever since I was able to hold a pencil, and now have more than twenty years of experience in painting”.

My heart started beating faster
I have always been passionate about horses, even from a very early age. My mother used to strap me in tightly into the stroller, otherwise I would run into the fields towards the horses. My heart started beating faster every time I saw or heard a horse. That still is the case today! When I was ten, I started to ride and I have 18 years of riding experience. I have always loved dressage, jumping and outdoor rides in the woods.

The realisation of a dream
I have always expressed my passion for horses through drawing and painting. For years I wished to be able to make a living from my art and in 2012 this dream came true! Since then, I paint from my own studio in the small village of Wijchen in the Netherlands. In the last years I have painted hundreds of horses, 60 of which were commission based. I’m happy and confident to say that all clients were satisfied with the results. It is very special to present the portrait to the client when it’s finished and see the reaction and emotion it causes. Truly invaluable!

My development
I discovered that I could get in touch with the spirit of a horse in a certain way. I call this “working from a connection”. It is my way of getting in touch with the horse’s soul so that I can paint it’s true essence. This way, you can really look your horse in the eye again. It was not easy for me to accept this method of working, it can be very straining but eventually I couldn’t deny it anymore. Everything that happened in my life had led to this way of working. I paint your horse’s soul.
