Mentored by Venerable Master Xuecheng, the president of Buddhist Association of China, and his disciple Venerable Master Xianqi and Xianqing from Beijing Longquan Monastery as the abbot and the deputy abbot, Longquan Great Compassion Monastery is the first ritual site of Han Chinese Buddhism in Europe. It held the grand consecration ceremony on Dec. 9, 2015, which marks the beginning of Buddhist communication and cooperation between China and the Netherlands. Its establishment is one of the most important milestones in the history of Chinese Buddhism and friendly Buddhist communication between China and the Netherlands.
The mission of the monastery is to promote Buddhist culture for the benefit of the society, to unite the Dutch Chinese community as well as the local people and to promote the charity projects, to provide high quality education for both Buddhist and non-Buddhist communities, to integrate Buddhist culture with modern civilisation, and to promote the integration of Buddhism and other religions.
