HSTC was founded in 1990 as a trading company between Holland and the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), the forerunner of the Southern African Development Community. Hence the name HSTC: Holland SADCC Trading Company.

Throughout the years trading has been extended to several other countries.
