The Zaanse Schans is an authentic, historic windmill village with original wooden 'Zaan' buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th century. Only 20 minutes from Amsterdam, we are excellently reachable by car, train or bus. Admission to the Zaanse Schans area and most locations, including our Wooden Shoe Workshop, is free. Our wooden shoe museum is freely accessible, telling the history of almost a thousand years of wooden shoes and clogs in the Netherlands. The live demonstration is given all day, where you can experience the craftsmanship of wooden shoe making. Feel free to try on a pair and experience how it feels to walk on wood. Enjoy!"
