In 2010 the Amsterdam Centre for Orthodox Theology (ACEOT) was established and inaugurated during a solemn ceremony in main hall of the Vrije Universiteit. It received the blessing of the Orthodox Episcopal Conference of the Benelux .

In 2015 ACEOT was renamed to the Amsterdam Centre for Orthodox Theology (ACOT). It works closely with the Orthodox Church in The Netherlands and the various Oriental Orthodox Churches in The Netherlands.

The work of ACOT is supported by a foundation and various sponsors. In August 2015 the Dutch Minister of Education decided to grant VU a special budget for ACOT to educate Orthodox clergy. The foundation aims to establish a scholarship fund for Orthodox students.

In 2010 is het Amsterdam Centre for Eastern Orthodox Theology (ACEOT) op opgericht en feestelijk ingewijd in de aula van de Vrije Universiteit. Het ACEOT heeft de zegen van de Orthodoxe Bisschoppenconferentie van de Benelux ontvangen.

In 2015 is het ACEOT omgedoopt tot het Amsterdams Centrum voor Orthodoxe Theologie (ACOT). Het ACOT werkt nauw samen met de Orthodoxe Kerk in Nederland en de verschillende Oriëntaals-orthodoxe Kerken in Nederland.

Het werk van het ACOT wordt ondersteund door een stichting en verschillende sponsors. In augustus 2015 kende de minister van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap speciale financiering toe aan de VU om het ACOT in staat te stellen Orthodoxe geestelijken op te leiden. De stichting is van plan om een studiefonds in te richten.
