Geschiedenis

Corn. Bak® B.V. started in 1929 by founder Cornelis Bak, the grandfather of the former directors. With a homemade greenhouse Cornelis started breeding tulips, field-grown vegetables, lilies, summer flowers and pot plants, among them Hydrangea and Sansevieria.

Around 1956 a beginning was made with Bromeliad cultivation. The first Bromeliad in the company was the Vriesea splendens. The first thriving Vriesea splendens was sold in the year 1958.

The following years the company aimed at the production and sale of young plants, by successful selection of Guzmania minor, Vriesea splendens, Aechmea fasciata, Neoregelia carolinae, Tillandsia flabellata, Tillandsia leiboldiana and Guzmania hybrids.

Of the greenhouses, now existing, the first was built in 1983 and the last in 2008. The greenhouses have a total surface of 42.000 m2, of which 16.000 m2 is glass. By now Corn. Bak® B.V. has developed into a large international company with more than 500 grown types of Bromeliads and other special pot plants, of which 50 variations are available for trade.
