My personal experience is that kirtan helps to transform the energy of thoughts and emotions simply by focusing these on a single mantra.
When the breath is regulated the mind becomes more focused, at the same time still...more awareness in the heart.. more space.. joy arising from it.
After kirtan the atmosphere in the room and the people are vibrant with energy.
