Geschiedenis

The African Studies Centre Leiden is the only multidisciplinary academic research institute in the Netherlands devoted entirely to the study of Africa. It welcomes African scholars through its visiting fellowship programme, has a monthly seminar programme and an extensive library that is open to the general public. ASCL is an interfaculty institute of Leiden University (NL).

Onze taak

Main objectives

1. To promote and undertake scientific research on Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the field of the social sciences and humanities;
2. To function as a national centre in the field of African studies and to contribute to the education and teaching in these sciences; and
3. To promote the dissemination of knowledge and an understanding of African societies in the wider public sphere.
